What about items such as straws, bags, and cups marketed as “compostable” or biodegradable?”
Unfortunately, items marketed as “compostable” or “biodegradable,” which are made from corn or other plant material, are not recyclable. They’re designed to be composted in special industrial composting facilities. To date, industrial facilities in Connecticut do not accept these types of items made from plants, also known as bioplastics; therefore, they must be discarded in the trash.
